Top Sites Tuesday #37 Your Favorite Holiday Music!

I really enjoy so many holiday songs! They are all so uplifting and cheery - and we only get to sing them for one month out of the year (well in public anyway)

A favorite song really is hard to choose so I'm choosing 2!

1) I love "Joy to the World" - Not for sentimental reasons though, I love this song because of the modified childhood version.  We could never get in trouble for singing it (or humming it).  In case you don't know the modified version, here's a little bit:

LMAO I can't remember the rest - probably a  good thing, I know many of you are teachers so I'm moving on (but there are many versions for this song!)

 

2) Feliz Navidad - I love the upbeat blend of Spanish and English in this song.  In school in the south we learned it and sang it at every Christmas Choir program - not sure they do that song up here because the Spanish influence isn't as strong around here (but it's getting there - Bring on the TEX-MEX restaurants and mariachi bands!)

Fourth of July 2009

And another Fourth of July, Independence day here in the US, is coming. Tomorrow night we will get to enjoy fireworks and bonfires and family and friends! Gotta Love it! I'll be starting my celebrations with friends tonight, followed by family barbecue and fireworks tomorrow, followed by more family time on Sunday

I know we all tend to loose sight of the reason for the Holiday, but it is the holiday that drives us to spend more time with people that are important to us!

Got a moment? I've got a short story, well, an old memory from years back:

In Baytown, Texas, every year fireworks and a festival are held in the centennial park near Lee College. There were the obvious food vendors with everything a Southern Town should have from chili to Gumbo and Ice cream to snow cones. There were carnival rides, face paintings, etc... everything that makes a holiday eventful!

One year, we went to the park for the beautiful display of fireworks on a Balmy July Evening, people were listening to the music from the outdoor amphitheater, I don't remember the group but I do remember the song they were covering - "Lake of Fire" by Nirvana.

Everything was going well, the display was amazing - when one of the cans that holds a firework that's about to be launched fell over after the "mortar" was lit. The firework shot through the crowd of hundreds of people, popping and exploding everywhere. It was a disaster that I got to watch from a distance. Of course, my parents whipped us kids into the truck and home we went! I don't remember if anyone was seriously hurt, but I do remember the scattering crowd - like the parting of the Red Sea - and that crazy song!

So, I'd like you to hear that song.. I promise you don't have to turn down your speakers for this one!

My Favorite Song – Top Sites Tuesday Today's Top Sites Tuesday on BlogDumps is: What's your Favorite Song? It would almost be easier if I could tell you my favorite band... or better yet my favorite style of music. But As it's "What's you favorite song?" I suppose that's out of the question. So here are a list of my current favorites and my reasoning.... 1) Hell Yeah - Alcohaulin Ass -- Classic song for a Friday night Whiskey Drinking Session. All southern Rock is good for that I guess, but lately this song takes the cake!
2) White Zombie and Rob Zombie - and yes, It's probability because I love the horror show / sci-fi element that's presented in his music... and yes I've gone to Concerts. Talk about being lost in the Sci-fi world! The pyrotechnics and robots and theatrics would make anyone love the show - even if they're not a rocker! Who could hate a Fire breathing robot shooting flames across the stage?!?

Rob Zombie - Thunder Kiss '65 (1993)

3)Powerman 5000 - When Worlds Collide - The singer is Rob Zombie's Little Brother, and everyone knows how into families I am! LOL This is the perfect "I'm angry and Need Loud Music" song... You can crash and rock out all at the same time!
4)And Lastly, something from a long time ago (to me anyway) This one first showed me that rock could be soulful and meaningful. Please watch this one even if you skip all my other favorites.
